In far northern West Virginia close to the state’s borders with Ohio and Pennsylvania, Tomlinson Run State Park covers 1,398 acres along an Ohio River tributary. The park was established in 1935 and named after the Ohio River tributary. In addition to the water frontage on this tributary, the state park has several ponds and a lake that are ideal for boating and fishing. In the 1990s, Hancock County residents formed the Tomlinson Run State Park Foundation to raise funds for park maintenance and updates to the picnic areas, playground equipment and several park buildings. The landscape features sandstone and shale cliffs as well as dense forests, and wildflowers add color to the landscape in the spring and summer.

RV Resorts & Campsites in Tomlinson Run State Park
The Tomlinson Run State Park campground is nestled between the Tomlinson Run Lake to the west and the small ponds to the east. Of the 54 campsites in the park, 33 offer electrical hookups. The maximum RV length is 50 feet. All campsites have a grill with a fire ring and a picnic table. Campers can take advantage of a laundry facility, two bathhouses with flush toilets and showers, a dump station and a convenience store. Tomlinson Run State Park is accessible with designated parking spaces, restrooms and camping accommodations. While the park is open year-round, the campground is only open from spring to fall.

Tomlinson Run State Park
Tomlinson Run State Park is well-equipped for fun and relaxation for all ages, offering amenities like a swimming pool with a water slide, a miniature golf course and boat rentals. It also offers individual and group picnic areas, a playground, sport courts, a disc golf course and several hiking trails.
Fishing
Fishing is permitted at the ponds and lake at Tomlinson Run State Park. Several hiking trails run close to these bodies of water, making it easy for anglers to reach quieter fishing spots. A fishing license is required, and fish species include bluegill, trout, catfish and bass.
Geocaching
A cache is hidden in Tomlinson Run State Park for treasure hunters to discover. Coordinates and special instructions for reaching the cache are available through the geocache app.
Nature Watching
While the eastern area of the park is developed with picnic areas, camper conveniences and sports areas, the western section is preserved as a wilderness area. Several trails run through this area that generally follow along the Tomlinson Run tributary. This natural area is well-suited for spotting weasels, ermines, red foxes, skunks, rabbits, black bears, white-tailed deer and other species.
Hiking
There are six main hiking trails at Tomlinson Run State Park, and these range from 0.5 miles to 2.1 miles long. The Beech Trail, Laurel Trail and White Oak Trail take you through the wilderness area. The Poe Trail, Bigfoot Trail and Maple Trail offer water views and access.
Swimming
Park visitors can cool off in the large swimming pool during the summer. A picnic shelter with electricity is available at the pool. The pool’s 182-foot water slide is a highlight for adults and kids alike.
Boating
On the southern shore of Tomlinson Run Lake, rowboats and paddle boats are available for rent at the concession stand. A boat dock is also located in this area for easy access to the water.
How to Get to
Tomlinson Run State Park
Tomlinson Run State Park is located a short drive from Pittsburgh. Driving out of the city, take Highway 22 to Route 18. In Frankfort Springs, turn west on County Line Road. Follow this road northwest to New Manchester. Turn east on Highway 8. After a short distance, you will see a sign for Tomlinson Run State Park.
Entering Tomlinson Run State Park
Tomlinson Run State Park is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Parking lots are available immediately after entering the park close to the swimming pool as well as near the many picnic areas, sports areas and boat dock.

Camping is a popular activity at Tomlinson Run State Park, and it is only permitted from spring to fall. These seasons are also ideal for fishing, hiking and enjoying the park’s sports amenities.
The unspoiled forest and waterways in Tomlinson Run State Park provide a natural habitat for many smaller and larger animals. Some of these are black bears, raccoons, white-tailed deer, weasels, rabbits, ermines, skunks and red foxes.
None of the camping spots at Tomlinson Run State Park are designated for RV use only. Thirty-three of the 54 camping spots offer electrical hookups for RVs.
Reservations are not required to camp at Tomlinson Run State Park. If you choose to make a reservation, you can do so online. The nightly rate ranges from $35 to $45 per night, and no additional reservation fee applies.
Dogs are permitted at Tomlinson Run State Park, but they are not allowed in any of the park buildings. Pets must always be leashed.
